  1. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and chemical splash goggles. Shake well and open can slowly to relieve pressure.
  2. Pour into a metal container and apply with a paintbrush to a small area (up to 1ft x 1ft). Brush in one direction only. Leave the area and let the stripper do the work.
  3. After 15-30 minutes, test scrape a small area to see if finish is ready for removal. Remove loosened finish by gently scraping in direction of wood grain with a plastic stripping tool. A toothbrush, toothpick or stripping brush will help remove old finish buried in recesses. Multiple coats or stubborn finishes may require repeat application.
  4. Use a clean abrasive pad dipped in After Wash or Odorless Mineral Spirits to loosen remaining finish and remove any residue. Surface should be completely clean and dry before refinishing.

  1. After removing paint, polyurethane, varnish or other finishes, reapply Strip-X Stripper.
  2. Dip a stripping pad in water and then scrub surface in a circular motion to lift the stain from the wood. Water may raise wood grain, loosen veneer or glue joints - apply sparingly. A test area is recommended. Use a stripping brush for grooved surfaces.
  3. Rinse with a small amount of clean water and wipe dry.

IMPORTANT: Do not use for stripping floors or any place where a flammable remover might be hazardous. Do not mix with any other product. Protect surrounding areas with a heavy plastic drop cloth. Do not use on linoleum, plastic, rubber, asphalt tile, fiberglass or other synthetics. Use over a small area because health and safety risks will increase dramatically when used over large areas.

CLEAN UP: Return unused stripper to the original container. The work area and tools can be cleaned up with soap and water. Wash arms and hands with cold water and soap.

STORAGE: Store in a cool place, below 90°, out of direct sunlight. Exposure to high temperatures or prolonged exposure to sun may cause can to swell or leak.

DISPOSAL: If container is corroded, rusted or shows signs of deterioration, dispose of product. Dispose of empty cans and leftover product at your local household hazardous waste collection facility. If one is not available, dispose of in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

What type of brush should be used to apply Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper?
Use inexpensive natural bristle brushes that can be disposed of afterward.

How much Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper should be applied?
As thick of a coat as possible without running—the more stripper on the surface, the faster, easier and more complete the stripping will be. Excess can be pushed onto nearby spots and reused.

How should Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper be applied?
In a thick coat with a single brush stroke. Strippers contain ingredients to retard evaporation. Excess brushing causes loss of the active ingredients, causing the stripper to dry out. For safety reasons, keep the work area small and manageable (no more than 9 sq. ft. area).

If the stripper dries on the surface, what should I do?
Reapply the stripper liberally and let it stand 15 to 30 minutes. The stripper will soften the dried residue so the surface can continue being stripped.

Does it get too cold to use paint stripper?
Yes, both the ambient temperature and the core temperature of the item being stripped need to be between 65˚ and 85˚.

How much coverage can I get out of a can of Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper?
Typically, up to 80 sq. ft. per gallon — or 20 sq. ft. per quart.

Can I use the Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper near a pilot light?
No, this stripper is flammable, and shouldn’t be used near any open flame or source or spark.

Is there a trick to stripping a surface faster?
Scuff the surface of the paint or finish with sandpaper to let the stripper get under the surface quicker. This also helps with difficult-to-remove coatings.

How do you open the can?
Many Klean Strip® strippers are tightened to prevent leakage. A pair of channel lock pliers can be used to free the cap.

Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper did not work. What might I have done wrong?
Some paints are very chemical-resistant. Scuff the surface of the paint or finish with an abrasive pad or sandpaper to let the stripper get under the surface quicker. Reapply a thick coat of the stripper; at least an 8th of an inch, and only brush in one direction. To keep the stripper active longer, cover it with a heavy plastic drop cloth or other plastic sheeting (even a trash bag will help). Give the stripper plenty of time to work. If the stripper is drying or getting gummy before it works, apply more over top to keep it active. In order to really soften and liquefy paint, the stripper will need to be several times thicker than the paint film, so put on a thick layer.

Are there any Klean Strip® paint strippers that are water-soluble?
Yes, Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper and Premium Sprayable Stripper are both water-soluble. Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper helps remove wood stain and varnishes. Klean Strip® Premium Sprayable Stripper works on paint, epoxy, and polyurethane.

What is the shelf life of Klean Strip® Strip-X® Stripper?
The shelf life is three years unopened and six months after opening.
